Michelle joined the company as a substation inspector three years ago, after spending 17 years working in a primary school as a higher-level teaching assistant and learning mentor.

The Horsham resident works for UK Power Networks Services at Gatwick Airport. Nominated by site supervisor Calum Nicholson, Michelle was recognised for her dedication, willingness to support colleagues and commitment to maintaining high standards.

Calum said: "Michelle is one of the hardest-working people in the team. She always supports colleagues while completing her own work to the highest standards, including producing top-quality risk assessments on site. She is also always willing to welcome and teach new people joining the business."

For Michelle, winning the award at the ceremony held in London came as a complete surprise.

She said: "I didn't expect to be nominated because, for me, everything is a team effort. It was a complete surprise, and an even bigger surprise to win. I feel very humble."

Reflecting on her success, Michelle added: "I worked in a primary school for 17 years and, while you don't do the job for recognition, it is nice when someone says, 'You're doing a good job'. Receiving this award has given me confidence that I'm on the right path in a completely new career."

Looking ahead, Michelle hopes to continue developing her skills and progress into an electrical fitter role, building on the knowledge and experience she has gained since joining the company.
