Major EV charging installation for Yorkshire Water

UK Power Networks Services has been selected to install an integrated operations, maintenance, and management solution for up to 1,000 EV charging points for Yorkshire Water, as the water utility pivots towards an electric fleet, in line with its Net Zero ambitions.

How can I electrify my fleet

In one of the largest schemes in the UK, our specialist team in the North of England will be deploying a system that brings together all aspects of EV charging, including installation, operation, maintenance, and management, making it simple and efficient for Yorkshire Water to meet its ambitious sustainability plans.

EV chargers will be installed at offices, depots and at employees homes, meaning staff drivers will be able to charge at home, at work and on-the-go at public chargers, giving them flexibility and peace of mind. Fleet managers at Yorkshire Water will be able to access a centralised digital platform to monitor and manage operations. UK Power Networks Services will also provide a 24/7 support line for all drivers, along with a team of experts to proactively maintain the chargers.

The move forms part of Yorkshire Water’s commitment to meet its net zero target by 2030. Among a range of initiatives over the next ten years, the company plans to install renewables, lower overall energy use and switch its entire fleet of vans and cars to electric by 2030.

Philip Heathcote, Head of Markets at UK Power Networks Services, said:

We are delighted to be helping Yorkshire Water achieve their sustainability targets. We often receive enquiries asking how a large vehicle fleet can electrify in a matter of years. This project proves that with strong collaborative partnerships, the right strategy and expertise – it can be done.”

We have committed to achieving net zero operational emissions by 2030, and part of that ambition includes transitioning all of our vehicles to zero or ultra-low emissions. Working with UK Power Networks Services to develop the supporting infrastructure for all our light commercial vehicles to be electric-powered is an important step to making that a reality and will allow our teams to utilise electric vehicles to their full potential."
