Volunteers join busy animal rescue centre to help heartbroken hounds

Animal Rescue Centre

As part of our’ ‘Donate a Day’ initiative, five employees gave their time to walk dogs, paint fences and clean litter trays at Last Chance Animal Rescue Centre. The initiative allows employees two paid days to help community projects.

Last Chance Animal Rescue Centre rehabilitates and re-homes abandoned pets, saving 'pound dogs' from euthanasia and providing loving care while they find a ‘fur-ever’ home. The charity constantly needs volunteers to help with activities, ensuring the well-being of the animals.

Depending on where they are rescued from, the animals often arrive at the centre in a poor state. Last Chance does its best to restore their health and find them loving homes. Dogs surrendered from homes can be particularly stressed and confused, often refusing to eat for days due to the heartbreak of abandonment.

Emma Kemp, who led a team of animal lovers, said:

The dedication and hard work of this charity and their commitment to finding the animals loving new homes was inspiring. Walking the dogs provided them with much-needed exercise, affection, and companionship. Each dog had a unique personality, and it was a privilege to spend time with them.

With so many animals at the centre, volunteers are able to give extra time to the dogs—such as more walks and more cuddles. It’s also beneficial for the dogs to meet different people, as it helps them to socialise and build confidence. The rescue requires a lot of upkeep, so having an extra pair of hands helps us complete the smaller tasks that we might not otherwise get time to do. Even something as simple as washing the dog bowls is one less job for us to think about—and it allows us to dedicate our time elsewhere, such as rescuing and caring for more animals.

The charity has many reliable volunteers and always welcomes new ones. Those interested in volunteering can get in touch through the charity’s contact page here.
