Steve Muscat joins Senior Management Team as Head of Engineering

Steve Muscat Joins SMT As Head Of Engineering

Steve will lead the company’s market-leading design, information management, and testing and commissioning capability, to drive our strategy in delivering a bright energy future for clients.

He has 20 years’ experience in power engineering, having led major infrastructure upgrades on the London Underground and several high-profile projects as an engineering consultant, including on nuclear power stations and upgrades to UK’s national rail network. Steve is also a committed industry advocate, acting as Chair of the IET’s Railway Electrification Infrastructure Systems committee and member of the British Standards for Railway Electrotechnical Applications committee.

After joining at UK Power Networks Services in 2017, Steve has tirelessly developed and grown the firms’ in-house electrical design function: overseeing multi-million-pound projects and tripling the team in size. “I’m most proud of how we’ve re-structured our offering to deliver end-to-end solutions for our clients” he says. “We’ve continued to expand into new areas while delivering best-quality engineering for our existing clients.”

The company now has a large team of highly-skilled experts who can cover all aspects of network planning, design, automation, and control – from initial design and feasibility to construction design, testing and commissioning. In addition, the team covers a range of specialised areas of SCADA, integration of EVs, renewables and storage. “Ultimately that means we have the experience and knowledge to deliver cost effectively for our clients,” Steve says. “because of that we’ve delivered some major projects, including the Great Western Electrification Project, HS1 and Hinkley Point C.”
